About Us

Memorable dining experience by the sea

Hello, welcome. My name is Robin, and along with my mother Joan, and sister Laura, we founded the Boatyard Restaurant. After months of planning, interior designing and refurbishment, coinciding with one of the worst winter snow falls the island has experienced in decades, we opened the Boatyard in the spring of 2013.

The Mowat family are established hospitality professionals with considerable experience spanning over 50 years, having owned hotels and restaurant businesses in the UK and Isle of Man. Moving to the Isle of Man in 2005, the family took the reins of Tanroagan in Douglas transforming it to become one of the islands top seafood restaurants. In 2012, the family opened the Swiss House Restaurant in Glen Helen, with the islands first Charcoal Grill Oven as its main feature. Our latest venture has been to open the islands first fully plant-based café/restaurant in the former Tanroagan premises. Opened in 2022, it has set the trend and become the go to place for plant-based dining.

On behalf of the Mowat family and the Boatyard team, we look forward to welcoming you to the Boatyard whether its your first time or returning.

The Boatyard caters for gluten free and other special diets on request and welcomes families with young (and old) children who can enjoy our Little Pirates menu and activity bags.

Our kitchen uses as much locally sourced produce as possible to bring you a true taste of the Island and its surrounding seas. As well as a handpicked wine and gin list, the drinks menu features Isle of Man beers, sprits, local mineral waters, premium soft drinks and handcrafted cocktails.

We offer seasonal lunch and evening à la carte menus, with daily fisherman specials which may include local lobsters (seasonal), queenies, scallops and a variety of fish. We can also source special items to make your dining experience extra memorable such as seafood platters, oysters, celebration items for your table!

Situated on Peel’s historic quayside the Boatyard enjoys views of the bustling marina, bustling harbour and ancient castle offering you the perfect spot to relax over a delicious lunch or candlelit evening meal. Fresh seafood from local boats and local meat from the Islands finest butchers is prepared daily by our talented chefs and served to you by our friendly Boatyard team.

Manx Menu 2024

The Manx Menu is a new initiative launched in 2024 to celebrate the diverse and innovative ecosystem of Manx chefs, mixologists, waiting-on staff, producers, growers and suppliers who provide the Island with quality produce and service year-round.

Our entry for 2024 included 3 dishes and a special cocktail. our famous Manx Queenie Pancake, Manannan's Cloak (Medley of local Lobster, Crab, Scallop with a herb foam and sauteed Manx potatoes), and Boatyard Coffee Budino (Espresso Crème Bruleé, Crushed Biscotti, Cappuccino Ice cream and topped with flamed Italian Meringue.  The cocktail, named Hoolie on Fenella Beach, took its inspiration from the wild winds during winter which whip up the waves sending sea spray crashing over the beach and breakwater. Fusion of local rum and honey.

We are honoured to be the first winners of the overall Manx Menu Competition 2024
